The Fortaleza da Barra was one of the fortresses built in the 17th century by the Portuguese to defend Macau against hostile European nations and local pirates. One hundred years later a chapel was built within its walls and dedicated to Saint James, the patron saint of the Portuguese garrison. Today, much of the fortress and the Chapel have been preserved as part of the hotel.

LA PALOMA RESTAURANT overlooking the picturesque expanse of Macau harbour, dedicated to the allure and cuisine of sun-drenched lands. Presents a menu of exquisite specialties from Macau, Portugal, Spain, in a setting that is simply unparalleled in the entire territory_ the magnificent 1641 Barra Fort, one of Macau's most beloved landmarks.
In the early evening, sip cocktails on the Terrace and let the world pass slowly by. In the background, a traditional Chinese junk sails lazily past on the shimmering waters, resplendent against a magnificent sunset.
LA PALOMA BAR dine in the La Paloma Bar and sit back to sample a tempting mixture of Portuguese and Continental dishes.
Through cool, stone archways, water cascading from the historic walls, enter the elegant lobby, from which you look down upon the Os Gatos Lounge characteristically furnished in a traditional Portuguese style.

CHAPEL OF ST JAMES the small Chapel, erected in the Barra Fort in 1740, was dedicated to St. James, the saint adapted by the Portuguese army, and the statue above the altar depicted St. James in military uniform. He wears high boots and the soldiers at the fort believed that at night he would leave the Chapel and patrol the ramparts, to inspect his troops thus making it a legend.
In 1978, the Chapel was restored and the statue of St. James cleaned and painted. As in the past, it became an integral part of the main building, adjoining the reception area and cocktail lounge.
WEDDING ARRANGMENTS they can arrange a blessings and floral decorations for the Chapel and around of the hotel_ lunch or dinner reception followed by their Wedding Menus, Buffets at their Os Gatos Restaurant and Terrace, or indoors at Cafe da Barra. In addition, photographer & video operator, live music and entertainment, wedding dress & suit rental can be arranged.
