Located 3.5 kilometres or 5 minutes drive from the centre of Kandy, the Mahaweli Reach sits on the banks of the Mahaweli River. Kandy is a 2.5 hour drive from Colombo airport (depending on the traffic) and is 1.5 hours from the cultural triangle of Sigiriya, Dambulla and Polonnaruwa. The hill station, Nuwara Eliya is 2 hours drive away to the south

114 rooms (112 Deluxe, 1 Executive and 1 Presidential Suite) of a very generous size include full air-conditioning, well-stocked mini bar, TV with international channels, a small balcony and overhead ceiling fan, Most of the rooms are Hollywood Twins (2 single beds pushed together) which can be made up as twin singles or a double bed. 94 rooms are housed in the new wing (built in 1993) which overlooks the pool. The remaining rooms including the executive suite are housed in two small blocks right on the river bank. Bathrooms are with baths and overhead shower.
Facilities and Services
The hotel is dominated by a huge free form pool which sits by the main building on the lawns which lead down to the river. Overlooking the pool are the hotel's buffet restaurant ( a la carte if guest numbers are low) and bar lounge. In the basement is a well-equipped gym including instructor and there is tennis, an Ayurvedic Treatment Center, games room, business centre, and on occasions river cruises. The hotel provides daily cultural or themed nights at the restaurant.
