There are two national parks here – Biogradska gora – untouched forest not far from Kolašin and mountain chain Durmitor with Tara river canyon (under protection of UNESCO).

Kolašin is home of one of the most beautiful Montenegrin rivers – Tara and its canyon surrounded by cliffs and mountains. This town was founded in 1652 as the outpost on the caravan route from Podgorica to Bijelo Polje. The ruins of the fortress and gun powder depot remain here. In 1878, by the Berlin Congress Act, Kolašin was included in the territory of Kingdom of Montenegro.
Nowadays, it is the centre of the National Park "Biogradska Gora", well known for its unspoilt forests and glacier lakes.Not far from Kolašin is a Ski-centre Bjelasica with long, gentle ski slopes and steady snow cover. It is rather suitable for beginner skiers, but advanced sportsmen can wind their slope as well.
